(16 March 2021, Washington, D.C.) The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) announced it will be convening its members and stakeholders this June for USGBC Live to be held virtually from June 8–10, 2021. USGBC Live will unify regional and local perspectives to establish a global vision for USGBC and LEED and the adoption of LEED.

“USGBC Live will streamline and integrate various practices to help the market accomplish their green building goals in an easier and more efficient way,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO, U.S. Green Building Council. “In short, this is where we provide early access to, and shape, the future of LEED. The future is about scaling up and taking USGBC and the green building industry into its second generation, one that focuses not just on the places where we live, work, learn and play, but on the people inside them.”

The first generation of LEED was about connecting the dots between green building awareness and adoption and educating people on the impact of green building benefits and strategies. The second generation is about accelerating adoption through new metrics, credits, incentives, goals and methods of implementing LEED—at a time when the world needs it most.

USGBC Live will be complemented by year-round education on topics including LEED rating systems, credit categories, strategies and case studies; USGBC’s four pillars, sustainability, health and wellness, resilience, and equity; integration of GBCI programs and Arc with LEED; boot camps for aspiring credential holders; and advocacy activities at the federal, state and local levels.

“USGBC Live will provide the entire USGBC community with increased engagement and a convening opportunity, culminating in the annual Greenbuild conference in September 2021,” added Ramanujam. “Greenbuild is the global thought leadership platform where the leaders developing the next generation of standards, policies and partnerships gather to turn the promise of a higher living standard into a reality for all.” USGBC Live will blend the expertise of the largest community of green building leaders with the data, insights and stories from influential leaders and thousands of global LEED and green building projects to produce insightful and engaging conversations about the future of buildings, cities and communities. USGBC has opened a call for proposals for the immersive June event, along with a call for engagement that will be reviewed on a rolling basis all year long.

USGBC Live will be open exclusively to the USGBC community, with numerous other opportunities for the broader green building industry to participate. USGBC Live will accommodate international times zones, including those of the U.S., Canada and Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, India and China. Participation in the USGBC Live June event will be available for a nominal fee to the USGBC community in 2021. USGBC Live programming and registration will open this spring, and opportunities to showcase brand alignment and sponsorships are available.
